This Past Week in CCD: Diplomacy, rains outlook and regional cooperation

Kenya advanced environmental diplomacy after the G7 environment track, while weather advisories and Lake Victoria cooperation kept regional climate resilience in view.

The week of 27 April 2026 began with Kenya reporting strengthened environmental diplomacy through strategic partnerships and high-level dialogue. Environment, Climate Change and Forestry CS Dr. Deborah Barasa engaged Mongolia on climate resilience, sustainable land management and biodiversity conservation on the margins of the G7 Environment Ministers Meeting held from 23 to 24 April.

At home, heavy-rain warnings and flood risk remained active as the long-rains season moved into May. Kenya Met warnings for early May reinforced the importance of public advisories, preparedness and local risk communication.
